Between the Friday and the Sunday Jesus wrestled with death and Satan himself in the depth of Hell. So Jesus death was not the end but the beginning. If the story of Jesus ended at the time of his death, we too would be condemned to eternal death. However, by rising from the dead Jesus finally gained victory over Satan. Satan could notlonger control our destiny.
By rising on the third day Jesus completed his mission to defeat death, so we may not die (enter hell) but have eternal life. He took the place for everyone who was born. He descends into hell so you could live. He did this as an act of will, because he loved you and so you didn’t have to experience hell for yourselves.
During the trial, on the cross, his death and his time in hell Jesus took our place, he paid the penalty for our sin. He became our sacrifice, no more are we required to make daily sacralises or communicate with God through a “Priest”. By shedding his blood Jesus gave us direct access to the throne of God.
